Esther Williams es va trencar el coll en un salt de trampolí i va estar sis mesos completament (tot el cos) immovilitzada fins que es va poder recuperar i seguir la seva carrera. A més del cinema, la seva linia de vestits de bany ha estat el seu gran negoci. Per "Bathing Beauty" (Escuela de Sirenas") es va fer una piscina especial de 30x30m amb una instal·lació especial per els efectes especials subaquàtics, que va costar 250.000$ (una fortuna l'any 1944). Els assaigos de les coreografies van durar 10 setmanes. La película va ser superada en recaptació només per "Gone with the wind". La sequència i ball final sota l'aigua está encara considerada com una obra mestra i la precursora de la Natació sincronitzada moderna.
